Best memory from Empower U:
The genuine friends made, some are still my best friends to this day. And friends who are focused on supporting and affirming your dreams and successes.
Which lesson have you implemented the most?
A quote only used once in the program regarding careers, but I’ve ended up using it in all areas of my life: “Do more than is asked of you.” It pays off big time.
How did the program impact your life?
I made me aware that my thoughts, feelings and actions have a direct consequence on the results I get and current have. Therefore immediately after the program and ever since, I have accepted more personal responsibility and ownership of my results and motivates me to be better to achieve better results. Specifically, throughout Uni when I didn’t achieve the marks I wanted, I would acknowledge that there was more room to improve, study smarter and make a genuine effort to enjoy what I was learning, and the marks unsurprisingly were on average better.
What would you say to someone thinking of attending?
It is definitely an experience that has helped me be a better me. Whatever doubts or scepticism you have about the program, I would advise to just reserve judgement and simply attend with an open mind. You may find it was the best decision you ever made – it was for me.
What advice would you give other young people trying to better themselves?
You’re already halfway there if you are seeking to improve yourself. Just keep up the hunger to learn more but always be grateful for what you have as well.
What has been your biggest lesson in life so far?
It’s actually my favourite quote. I know it can sound cliché to have a saying to live by but this is mine: “This too shall pass.” So when things are hard and it can seem all to much, remember: this too shall pass. And when things are going so well and you think you are unstoppable, remember: this too shall pass. Life isn’t static, so persevere when the going gets tough and be grateful when you’re winning.
